Richard Thornberry is chief executive officer of Radian Group Inc. (NYSE: RDN). Headquartered in Philadelphia, Radian provides private mortgage insurance and products and services to the mortgage and real estate industries. Radian is one of the largest private mortgage insurers of U.S. residential mortgages, and its mortgage and real estate services segment is a leader in each of its industries.

Mr. Thornberry has more than 30 years of experience in the financial services industry, as a leader of some of the most innovative mortgage industry businesses. Most recently, he served as the chairman and chief executive officer of NexSpring Group, LLC., a firm he co-founded in 2006 to partner with and advise leading private equity firms related to potential financial services M&A transactions. The firm was later expanded to provide mortgage industry advisory and technology services to mortgage lenders, financial institutions, mortgage investors and other mortgage industry service providers.

Mr. Thornberry was also co-founder, chairman and chief executive officer of NexSpring Financial, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of NexSpring Group, which is a fintech business currently being launched to focus on improving the overall value proposition for all participants in a residential mortgage origination transaction. During the financial crisis, he served as a senior advisor to the financial institution investment team at a leading private equity firm. Prior to founding NexSpring, Mr. Thornberry teamed up with KKR, a global investment firm, to co-found and launch Nexstar Financial Corporation, Inc., a leading end-to-end mortgage business process outsourcing firm. Under his leadership, Nexstar was recognized as one of the nation’s fastest growing companies, and was acquired by MBNA. Prior to Nexstar, Mr. Thornberry was the president and chief operating officer of Citicorp Mortgage Inc., and he also held executive-level financial and operating positions at Residential Services Corporation of America/Prudential Home Mortgage Company, including as chief financial officer, until the company was sold in 1996. Mr. Thornberry began his career as a certified public accountant at Deloitte where he primarily worked with financial services clients and entrepreneurial businesses.

Mr. Thornberry earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting from St. Louis University.

J. Franklin Hall

As chief financial officer, Frank Hall is responsible for all financial functions, including regulatory and management reporting, financial planning and analysis, enterprise capital planning, investment portfolio management, corporate development, enterprise risk management, tax, treasury and facilities at Radian Group Inc. 

Prior to joining Radian, Mr. Hall was executive vice president, chief operating officer and chief financial officer of First Financial Bancorp. He joined First Financial in 1999 and served in a variety of leadership roles. Mr. Hall began his career with Ernst & Young and later joined Firstar Bank (now US Bank) in their credit card division. 

Mr. Hall earned a bachelor’s degree in Finance from Miami University and an MBA from Xavier University.

Derek Brummer

As senior executive vice president of mortgage insurance and risk services for Radian Group Inc., Derek Brummer is responsible for all aspects of the risk management strategy and framework, as well as evaluating credit policy, for Radian and its subsidiaries. In this role, Mr. Brummer leads the team responsible for all mortgage insurance, credit risk products and operations.

Mr. Brummer joined Radian in 2002 and has served as Radian's chief risk officer since 2013. Prior to that, he was chief risk officer and general counsel for Radian Asset Assurance Inc., where he managed all risk and legal matters for the financial guaranty company and its insured portfolio. Mr. Brummer led all risk management strategy, overseeing portfolio surveillance, reserving, quantitative analytics and modeling, and directing restructurings and workouts. He also played a key role in developing and structuring new product lines and overseeing various underwriting committees. Prior to joining Radian, Mr. Brummer was a corporate associate at Allen & Overy; and Cravath, Swaine & Moore, both in New York.

Mr. Brummer holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and a J.D. from New York University School of Law.

Ted Hoffman

As general counsel and corporate secretary, Ted Hoffman is responsible for legal and regulatory compliance.

Since joining Radian in 2005, Mr. Hoffman has managed SEC, NYSE and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, corporate governance and other corporate related matters. Mr. Hoffman was promoted to senior vice president, assistant general counsel in February 2008. Prior to joining Radian, Mr. Hoffman was a senior associate in the Corporate and Securities Group of Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP in Philadelphia.

Mr. Hoffman holds a bachelor’s degree from Colgate University and a JD from Villanova University School of Law. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar.

Brien McMahon

As senior executive vice president and chief franchise officer for Radian Group Inc., Brien McMahon is responsible for leading Radian’s enterprise, mortgage insurance, services and enhanced sales teams as well as marketing and customer experience strategies.

Having served in the financial services industry for more than 25 years, Mr. McMahon formerly held the position of executive vice president for Realogy Franchise Group, where he directed sales, training and administration for multiple premier real estate brands including: Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate, Century 21 Real Estate LLC, Coldwell Banker, Coldwell Banker Commercial, ERA, and Sotheby's International Realty. Prior to Realogy, Mr. McMahon served 14 years with PHH US Mortgage in a variety of roles, including senior vice president of national sales.

Mr. McMahon received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut. He is also a member of the board for Lordship Beach Organization.

Eric R. Ray

As senior executive vice president of technology and transaction services, Eric Ray is responsible for the overall vision, strategy and leadership for the enterprise-wide IT function and for leading the company’s Services businesses.

Mr. Ray has more than 30 years of experience in the technology sector. Most recently, he held the role of General Manager, Global Technology Services at IBM Corporation where he was responsible for the IBM North American technology consulting business, project based services and enterprise-wide technology offerings.

Mr. Ray received his bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and his MBA from the University of Detroit.

Cathy Jackson

As corporate controller, Cathy Jackson is responsible for all financial reporting and accounting operations, including SEC reporting, accounting policy, financial guaranty and mortgage insurance accounting operations.

Ms. Jackson has more than 20 years of experience in the financial services industry. She joined Radian after serving eight years with Capmark Financial Group Inc. in various positions. Most recently, Ms. Jackson served as chief accounting officer, where she had oversight of all internal and external financial reporting, accounting operations, pricing analytics and accounting policy. Prior to that, she served eight years with Salomon Smith Barney as manager of accounting policy. She started her career in the audit practice at KPMG in Philadelphia.

Ms. Jackson earned a bachelor's degree in Accounting from St. Joseph's University.
